Our history

Founded in 1916 in Reggio Calabria by the progenitor of Sicilian origin Giuseppe, Fotocine Mavilla can, without a doubt, be one of the oldest companies in the photographic sector in Italy.

The art of photography was handed down by him to four of his seven children and, in particular, to Edmondo who already distinguished himself as a portraitist and wedding photographer in the 1950s, later becoming the first RAI correspondent as a cameraman in Calabria.

The family art finds continuation in his son Silvio who from a very young age began a brilliant career as a photojournalist, collaborating in the 1970s with important newspapers such as ANSA, Associated Press and RAI.

A family passion

Both, Edmondo father and Silvio son, loved to try their hand at sports photography and particularly at the Municipal Stadium of Reggio Calabria following the Reggina team.

In the following years, Silvio focused his activity as a wedding photographer and from 1977 to 2010 he became the holder of the Chair of Photography Technique at the Academy of Fine Arts in Reggio Calabria.

Currently, he is dedicated to the creation of digital photo paintings, a unique technique in which he transforms his shots into paintings printed on canvas, applicable on subjects and landscapes.
